I’m not sure what was in the air this weekend, but I actually was ready for this work week to begin! On Saturday I found myself wishing the next day was Monday so I could start my last full work week before Christmas. WHO AM I? My weekend was fun, but productive. I love starting the week with all the little things being done!
Friday I went grocery shopping for the first time in a month (THANK GOD). Finally I have a stocked pantry and refrigerator and it is a relief to have food to cook my own meals again, although I’m sure I’ll quickly start missing the
daily weekly Chipotle run 😉
After work my roommate and I went to the gym to kick the weekend off on the right foot. I spent 30 minutes on the elliptical reading and doing an interval workout and the minutes FLEW by! After showering and getting ready, Tom, Jay and I made our way to my friend Jackie’s apartment for a little drinking games to celebrate her birthday.
After a few rounds of flip cup and beer pong we made our way to Tavern In The Square, a restaurant by day and bar by night, for a little drinking and a lot of dancing Happy birthday Jackie!!
I had a great time, but I knew it was time for me to head home around 12:30. I remembered that I had neglected to eat dinner (unless carrots and hummus count?) which is why I was feeling a little dizzy and things were getting a little blurry 😉 I took a cab back to my apartment, but not before ordering $20 worth of Chinese food to be delivered.
Saturday was extremely low key, and I loved it. I grabbed breakfast with Tom and then spent the day catching up on some work while watching Season 2 of Alias – I’m addicted. I actually feel ahead of the curve for work, which only makes sense as I’m about to go on a vacation in a week and a half. Catching up to get behind –> story of my life.
I spent a good portion of my evening FaceTiming and catching up with my mom, dad, and this little munchkin!
ISN’T HE THE CUTEST!?!?!
Sunday morning I was up early as I went to bed at 10:30 the night before, so I decided to go to church. I haven’t been to church in a long time, and I really think it’s time I start making it a priority on Sunday’s. The original mass I wanted to go to was for a non-denomination/Protestant church but it didn’t start until 10:30 and I knew I had some errands to run. I decided to go to the Catholic church down the road who had mass every Sunday at 9:30.
I have never gone to mass at a Catholic church, ever.
I’m Methodist/Lutheran so I’ve only been to Protestant churches growing up. Let me tell you, I was quite lost in the Catholic church service. I didn’t kneel before going into the pew, and had no idea how to do the communion. I think I was supposed to bring the wine to the front because I was nearest to it, but obviously I had no idea. I got quite a few strange looks. I left during the communion not out of disrespect, but just because I felt so incredibly out of place that I didn’t want to do anything to insult anyone! I think that may be my first and last time going to a Catholic mass without any backup (aka my Catholic roommates).
PSA: A large majority of my friends are Catholic – I love Catholics, just not so much the church mass.
I felt as thought I didn’t really find what I was looking for in the Catholic service, so I decided to go to the 10:30 mass at the Protestant church anyways, and I’m so glad I did. The casual nature of the service reminded me of my church back home in Florida, and it felt like a place where I could really connect with God – because isn’t that what church is all about? I’m looking forward to going home for the Christmas Eve service to sing all of my favorite songs
After church I went to Target to return a few things and then came back to my apartment to get dressed for the Steelers game. Kayla, Jackie, and I went back to Tavern In The Square for their awesome brunch. Every Sunday they offer a HUGE brunch buffet from 10:00 to 2:30 filled with eggs benedict, scrambled eggs, pancakes, french toast, bacon, biscuits and gravy — and that’s just the breakfast section of the buffet. There’s also a lunch area with salmon, chicken pasta, mac and cheese, pork, ham, rice with a gravy sauce along with a salad bar, fruit bar, and an ICE CREAM SUNDAE BAR. All you can eat. From 10 to 2:30.
I’ve been doing pretty well with losing weight recently, so I didn’t want to stuff my face (although it would have been so easy to). I started off with a plate of salad and a fruit bowl before giving in and trying a little bit of everything:
Eggs benedict, bacon, french toast, caesar salad, chicken penne, and a bowl of fruit!
The Steelers game started at 1:00 so we got there just in time to take part in the buffet and watch the first half of the game. I even had a beer in honor of football Sunday (how could you not??).
This afternoon I finally CLEANED MY ROOM (about time) and did 4 loads of laundry. I love productive weekends, there’s nothing like feeling ready for the week to start without a list of 124321 things to do. Plus, each week that passes is one week closer to Christmas vacation – wooo! I spent the rest of Sunday night laying in bed watching FRIENDS and reading The Last Man by Vince Flynn.
Today I’m on the road most of the day, but I’m hoping to get enough work done to get in a kick ass workout later today. I weigh in tomorrow for WW and I want to definitely keep this weight off! See y’all later!
Real talk – What did you do this weekend? Do you prefer productive or relaxing weekends?
