Surprise Flight Home

SURPRISE! Guess who’s back in Florida?

THIS GIRL!

And with a new addition to the Shoup family! Meet Ellie, my sister’s new puppy. She’s four months and probably the cutest little thing in the world.

Last weekend I made the impulse decision to buy an earlier flight home to Florida. Instead of coming in tonight at 11:30 PM, I came home Saturday evening right around dinner time. Although my previously purchased ticket was non-refundable, the extra $70 was completely worth it.

After buying my ticket, I decided to not tell my family I was coming home a couple days early. I called Paul and asked him if he would mind picking me up Saturday from the airport and he happily obliged. I told him about my plan to surprise my parents and he was completely on board.

My sister reads my blog (sometimes) so I purposely neglected that I was coming home early just in case she popped in to see what I was up to! I’m glad I didn’t tell anyone because the look on my family’s faces when I walked in the door was priceless.

When I got home, I snuck into the house through my garage. I first surprised my mom who was doing dishes in the kitchen. The dogs had heard me sneak in and were barking. She had just finished asking them what they were barking at when she saw me and started screaming and jumping up and down. My dad, thinking there was a robber in the house, came running in only to stop in shock when he saw I was home! My sister followed up right behind him and started jumping up and down and screaming.

There really is nothing I love more than my family, and a good surprise ;)

Saturday night was pretty low key after my initial surprise. We watched college football and I hoped that FSU would finally move up in the BCS polls considering several of the top 10 teams lost.

…Nope. Didn’t move an inch. I may be biased, but I find it slightly ridiculous that FSU, a team with one loss, is #10 behind teams that have had two losses. Keep in mind that this loss was by one point. I mean you have Kansas State who gets BLOWN OUT by an unranked team still ranked at #6. You have LSU who has two losses at #7. In the last 21 games, FSU has lost 2 games – both by one point. BCS? More like BS ;) But hey, like I said, I may be biased – I am a Florida State alum after all :)

I am counting down the days until FSU faces off with Florida for probably one of the greatest games this season. Florida is ranked #4, but it really doesn’t matter because this game is always the game to watch. It’s going to be epic, I can’t wait!

Yesterday my parents and I went to try out the new Miller’s Alehouse that just opened up in the area. Another plus to being back in Florida? I get to wear shorts again!

I’ve been to several Miller’s Alehouses in the past, even working at the Tallahassee location! I’m familiar with the restaurant, but I absolutely adore the new one they opened in Orlando. When you walk in there are indoor booths, high tops, and a bar that wraps around like a horse shoe. You also have the option of sitting outside on the patio at a table, hightop, or at the bar.

In addition to that, there’s an outdoor seating area with firepits, fireplaces, and couches that has a lounge-ish feel to it. There’s also a huge flatscreen TV above the outdoor fire place so you can watch football AND stay warm. That is, if the alcohol doesn’t solve that problem for ya ;)

We decided to have a few beers (it was Sunday Funday after all ;)) before our meals came out. My mom chose the french onion soup, while my sister and I picked our favorite pasta dishes: chicken parm and the cajun chicken pasta.

The pasta was extra cheesy (and extra good!) but very heavy. I could only get about halfway through the meal before boxing up the rest to take it to-go. After our late lunch, my sister, Paul, and I went to see Pitch Perfect. I had already seen it once, but I couldn’t wait to see it a second time iwth my sister. She loved it even more than I did! Again, if you haven’t seen it, GO!

After we got back to my house, we made a fire in the firepit, sat around by the pool, and just talked and laughed. It was a great weekend, one that I wouldn’t of had with my family had I not booked my early flight!

Right now I’m off to babysit my younger cousins, take the dogs out for a little walk (and make sure Ellie doesn’t pee in the house – again.), and finish a little work. Have a great week, see you guys tomorrow!

What did you do this weekend? Are you traveling for the Thanksgiving holidays?

I love that you surprised your family and I’m incredibly jealous that you can wear shorts right now!! I did the same thing to my grandmother a few weeks ago and she was so happy! I also paid the $70 to change my ticket to an earlier day. Sometimes, you just have to get home! It’s definitely worth it and I’m so happy you’re having a great time thus far :)

My mom literally hasn’t been able to stop saying how happy she is to have my sister and I home. Normally it’s an empty nest at our house, so having both her daughters home is ideal to my mom :)

And my family thinks I’m crazy for wearing shorts, even though it’s in the high 60’s! They’re all bundled up in Northfaces and Uggs. I literally want to throw them into Boston weather and show them what REAL cold weather is ;)

Yeah to family and surprises!!! Good job!!! I pulled that stunt last year for Thanksgiving and showed up on a Friday night when I wasn’t supposed to get in until Wednesday. My mother started screaming and I hear my dad go “uhh I’m guessing thats not UPS?” and poke his head around the corner. Have an awesome time!!!
