Witch Hunting in Salem

This weekend was one of the best weekends I’ve had in Boston since moving here last November. I don’t know if it was the time spent bonding with my roommates or the amount of times I laughed until my sides hurt, but I ended this weekend feeling completely happy and completely content with life.

Let me tell ya, it’s a good feeling.

Friday night I originally had plans to grab drinks with two of my friends Dani and Erica but after a little bit of miscommunication, we realized that it wasn’t going to happen. And I’m not gonna lie, after awhile all I wanted to do was throw on sweatpants and curl up on the couch.

So that’s exactly what I did.

My roommates and I walked down the road and ordered a cup frozen yogurt and came home and pigged out while watching Safe House. Denzel & Ryan Reynolds? Swoon.

Saturday morning my entire apartment woke up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. We went to the gym where I did a whole bunch of random circuit and cardio workouts. I was all over the place, but by the end of the session I was a hot sweaty mess ;)

It was such a beautiful day that after we all showered, the roommates all piled into the car and we decided to head to Salem for a late lunch (and a little witch hunting ;)).

Although Salem is only about a 25 minute drive north of Boston, this was my first time visiting the city. I had heard such awesome things about the town, I couldn’t wait to experience it myself! I had a blast walking around the city taking in the Halloween decorations, costumes, and booths that were already set up even though the holiday is still a good two and a half weeks away!

We had so much fun walking around, especially taking in all the people who were dressed up in costume. A city where it’s socially acceptable to walk around in a costume during the middle of the day? Count me in.

After exploring the city, we decided to grab a bite to eat at an Irish pub called Murphy’s. I wasn’t too hungry so I split an order of wings and fries with Kayla and opted for a Shipyard Pumpkinhead draft. I liked it a lot more than the wings ;)

After we left the restaurant we were planning on heading back towards Boston, until we discovered the carnival right around the corner. It took everything I had to control my 7 year old self and not sprint towards the ferris wheel.

Tom and Jackie somehow convinced me to go on this tilt-a-whirl puke/death trap waiting to happen. And although I was screaming the entire time, I had a blast :)

PSA: Do not drink copious amounts of alcohol before riding.

After the fair, we made the trip back to Boston where I quickly changed before grabbing a drink with a friend downtown. My roommates were at a bar down the road, so I decided to meet up with them later that night after drinks.

I drank, I danced, and I laughed.. a lot. I felt happy. Wild. Empowered. Unstoppable. I feel like I’ve finally broken down this subconscious wall I’ve had surrounding myself.

This weekend, I felt free.

Yesterday I did something I haven’t done in months, I slept in. I didn’t set an alarm, didn’t make any plans, I just let myself wake up once my body was fully rested. It felt amazing. I spent the day around the apartment doing laundry, cleaning my room, unpacking my winter clothes (it got down to the 40’s the other night – brrrrr!) and even managed to do a little work before the workweek started.  It was quite a productive day, and a great ending to an even better weekend.

I’m off now to grab some breakfast before heading to a few appointments. Today I’ll be on the road driving around, which is a bummer considering the view out my window isn’t too nice. Bring back the sunshine and blue skies from this weekend, is that too much to ask for!? ;)

Have a great week – see you guys tomorrow!!

What did you do this weekend? Have you ever felt behind at work? What is one thing you’re looking forward to this week?

that sounds like the most perfect weekend to me! So glad you enjoyed it! I feel that I am in need of a similar fun weekend, I’ve been so bogged down with school lately, it’s hard to get out of the funk, but nothing some good friends & good times can’t fix, right?

I am so jealous of you living in Boston! And it’s fall over there! Major jealousy….Funny thing, I let myself sleep in this morning too, and ended up sleeping for 10 hours! Haven’t done that in…forever, I think :)

What a perfect weekend! I think many people underestimate the power of a plan-free weekend (i.e. no alarms, no deadlines, nothing!). Just going with the flow is so liberating, relaxing, and most importantly rejuvinating! Glad to see you got your balance back :)
