“Endorphins Make You Happy”

May 14, 2012

I’m usually a positive person. I love my job, I love the city I live in, and I look forward to seeing what each and every day is going to bring me.

Not today.

Work for me started at 5:00 am. Working a 12 hour day is rare, but when they do come around they suck. Luckily I have the best personal trainer in the world (oh hey Jamal!) who let me come straight to the gym to get in a much needed training session.

I wasn’t sure what was in store for me today, but I was looking forward to getting my blood flowing and my endorphins released. Because exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. And happy people don’t just shoot their husbands.

Or, in my case, drive off a bridge.

Personal Training Workout: 5/14/12

Warmup:

  • 50 jumping jacks
  • 30 seconds of high knees
  • 25 body squats
  • 1 minute plank
  • Jump rope one minute; rest one minute – repeat 3 times

Abs & Arms:

  • 20 reps – knee raises
  • 15 reps – bicep curls
  • 20 reps – reverse situps
  • 15 reps – shoulder press
  • 20 reps/side – trunk twists
  • 15 reps – tricep extension
  • Repeat above cycle

Cardio:

  • Uphill march on the treadmill – Start incline at 10 and speed 3.0 and increase incline and speed every other minute for a total of ten minutes.

By the end of the work out I felt as if I had sweat all of the toxins and negative energy out of my body. It was exactly what I needed after a looooong day.

When I got home I had no idea what to cook for dinner, so I just started throwing things on the stove. It ended up being one of the best dinners I’ve had in awhile! On the menu was lettuce and pita chicken wraps with a side of sauteed green beans and zucchini. It was delicious, filling, and only 9 weight watchers points. BOO-YAAAAA!

The chicken was seasoned with a sweet chili sauce bought from Wegmans. It added the perfect amount of flavor and I cleaned my entire plate. Yum yum yum!

Now I’m off to watch Jeopardy with the roommate! I wish it was still college week… I always feel so smart because it’s the only time I know the answers to the questions ;)

HAPPY MONDAY! :D

Oh to have a personal trainer! I definitely credit exercise for my sanity. The hardest part is getting yourself out the door after a long day. I’m going to try switching to a 6am strength/cardio class for the summer to keep my evenings free.

I wish I could do morning workouts, but I just don’t have enough motivation for that. My job is pretty flexible and I work from home, so I’m able to stop working early, go to the gym, and then get back to work after. The personal trainer is great, he pushes me physically and mentally to do things I never thought possible! He’s a lifesaver :)
